The Wandoan Coal Project, if approved for development, is expected to create 844 jobs on the mine site once operational, of which 754 will be permanent operational employees.  As well as direct employment with Xstrata Coal Queensland (XCQ), there will also be job opportunities with the Project’s contractors and suppliers. In addition, through its training programs, Xstrata Coal will offer locally-based apprenticeships and traineeships and opportunities for tertiary scholarships and graduate employment.
