Xstrata Coal implements a combined Sustainable Development (SD) Management System in line with Xstrata’s 17 SD standards.

These standards have been cross-mapped with the Minerals Council of Australia's Enduring Value Principles for sustainable development.

Health and Safety

The key considerations for the Wandoan Coal Project's proposed mining operation will be noise, dust, degenerative musculoskeletal conditions, heat stress and wellbeing. Safety systems and management procedures will be developed to address these issues.

Eliminating fatalities and serious injuries is the key safety challenge for Xstrata Coal. We work to eliminate safety incidents in the workplace by identifying, assessing and, where reasonably practical, eliminating or otherwise controlling hazards.

The Wandoan Coal Project has undertaken comprehensive auditing of contractors’ safety standards and work practices to ensure they meet Xstrata standards.
